As an engineer in the Processing/Nanotechnology Group at ATRM you will be responsible for translating emerging technology platforms into innovative medical device concepts.  You will be involved in nanotechnology and MEMS based discovery programs and collaborative programs leading to the development of novel medical devices or diagnostic solutions.  The candidate will join the core team building ATRM’s nanotechnology platform that also interfaces with other platforms: advanced biomaterials, cells, scaffolds for tissue engineering/ regenerative medicine and drug delivery systems.  The candidate will be responsible for developing fabrication processes and/or building strong relationships with external fabrication partners to develop the technology.  The candidate’s responsibilities will include independently plan experiments and conduct research, identify new product opportunities and collaborate internally (with other J&J groups) or externally with academic groups.  He/she will provide directions and guidance in his/her field of expertise to other engineers/scientists. The candidate should have a hands-on approach to solving problems and be comfortable as a team member or as well as a project leader.  The candidate should be a creative thinker and experimentalist who thrives in innovative problem solving leading to IP generation and product concepts.

Qualifications

PhD or MS in Electrical/ Mechanical / Chemical Engineering/ Physics or equivalent degree with 0 – 3 yrs experience.  Hands on technical expertise in micro or nano technology based fabrication processes and foundry experience is required. Demonstrated expertise in MEMS in the medical device field is highly desired. The candidate is expected to be a hands-on expert in at least one or more of the following areas: MEMS, Micro/ Nano fabrication techniques, Micro-fluidic diagnostic or drug delivery systems, Systems integration and assembly of miniaturized medical devices.  Demonstrated experience in applying MEMS and Nanotechnology principles in conceptualizing, designing & developing miniaturized medical devices that incorporate some smart functionality like sensing, imaging, actuation, diagnostics or on-demand drug delivery is highly desired.  The candidate will be expected to be proficient in the latest trends in nanotechnologies and their applications in the healthcare field.
The candidate should have excellent communication skills both written and oral; excellent presentation skills; project leadership experience and a record of achievements as demonstrated by publications or patents. Must work effectively in a team environment and in a multi-disciplinary matrix style organization. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
