Staff Engineer- Nanotechnologies

Advanced Technologies and Regenerative Medicine (ATRM), LLC – a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary performs early stage research of innovative ideas in all areas of health care with a focus in medical devices and diagnostics. The successful candidate will be part of ATRM in Somerville New Jersey, involved in discovery and collaborative programs leading to the development of novel medical devices based on nanotechnologies.

The candidate will be a technical expert in micro/nano fabrication technologies for surface patterning; or micro/nano scaffolds for tissue engineering; or micro-fluidics for drugs/ bioactives delivery/ diagnostics. Experience in development of miniaturized smart devices based on MEMs; a thorough knowledge of polymer engineering; a very good understanding of biological systems (e.g. interactions w/ proteins, cells, and bacteria); ability to harness electrical, optical or energy effects for bio-medical applications; and a working knowledge of medical device development will be highly desirable. This highly innovative person will be expected to identify and generate new medical device product concepts leveraging the multi-disciplinary environment of ATRM. The candidate’s responsibilities will include independently plan and conduct research; provide project leadership; and collaborate internally (with other J&J operating companies) or externally with academic groups/ vendors. Further, the candidate is expected to be very entrepreneurial and take the concepts through feasibility by developing the necessary scale-up fabrication processes with partners globally. He/she will help build internal nanotechnologies capabilities, and provide direction/ guidance to other engineers/scientists. The candidate should have a hands-on approach to problem solving and be comfortable in both a team member as well as a project leader role. He/she will be responsible for making presentations, writing reports and actively generating intellectual property.

REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS: Staff Engineer- Nanotechnologies

Ph.D. in Bioengineering/ Biophysics/ Electrical/ Mechanical/ Chemical Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience. Candidate should have hands on experience in nanotechnologies and be well versed in developing medical devices. Should have excellent communication/ presentation skills, project management experience and a record of achievements as demonstrated by publications/ patents. Must have good inter personal skills and be able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary matrix style organization. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
