The Developmental Therapeutics Program’s primary emphasis is on drug discovery and characterization, identification of new therapeutic molecular targets and participation in the evaluation of samples and results from animal models with a goal of identifying drugs with potential therapeutic value. Under the National Cancer Institute/USAMRIID Inter-Agency Agreement, the Target Structure Based Drug Discovery Group carries out research in molecular neurobiology with the goal to understand the molecular and cellular basis underlying neuro-degeneration and regeneration as it applies to the development of therapeutics for bioterror agents and cancer. Will assist with research using mammalian cell culture (both of primary and established lines) and stem cell biology, molecular neurobiology, and transgenic mouse studies.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Possession of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with course work in a field related to biomedical research or four (4) years related experience in lieu of degree. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States. No experience required with a Bachelors degree. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
DESIRED SKILLS: Experience working with mammalian cell culture, SDS-PAGE, western blotting and molecular/cell biology preferred. Immuno-cytochemistry, PCR, human embryonic stem cell culture and analysis as well as derivation of mouse primary cultures experience desirable.
