Role Summary/Purpose The Conceptual Design Engineer will identify and support introduction of advanced technologies required for future steam turbine products.
In this role you will support a cross-functional engineering team by performing structural analysis of a wide range of conceptual steam turbines designs.
Essential Responsibilities Work with the STCD team members to identify and analyze potential technologies Analysis will include in-depth investigation of both rotating and non-rotating elements Perform tradeoffs analysis on cost, performance, reliability, cycle, and operability with the Systems team Ability and desire to learn new technology space and to challenge historical practices Provide timely communication of project issues and develop action plans to anticipate and respond to issues Perform component design engineering tasks where qualified Support engineering teams to evaluate customer value for component and platform options Support for conceptual design tool development
Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar Minimum 5 years experience in mechanical design

Desired Characteristics Strong inter-personal, teamwork, organizational, and communication skills Working knowledge of current structural analysis tools and methods Strong inter-personal, teamwork and communication skills Advanced technical degree Experience in steam turbine structural design methods Design knowledge of steam turbine bucket & rotor design, nozzle-diaphragm design, turbine casing design, clearances, sealing, and rotor dynamic design Experience with ASPL (Automated Steam Path Layout program) Experience with steam turbine bid / proposals and aftermarket turbine retrofits Global mindset – work with and lead diverse teams
