US: Chemist-Nanotechnology Lab

RTI s Center for Aerosol and Nanomaterials Engineering with the Engineering and Technology Unit is seeking an individual for a regular Chemist position in a nanotechnology laboratory to provide support for researchers developing and characterizing advanced nanomaterial technologies. This position will involve regular work in materials development laboratories at RTI s main campus in Research Triangle Park.Typical activities will include making solutions, operating nanomaterial fabrication equipment per laboratory operating procedures, performing analytical measurements as directed, and other duties as assigned. All operations of the laboratory will be conducted in accordance with RTI s laboratory safety guidelines.

Qualifications

*
B.S. in Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

*
Working knowledge or experience with nanotechnology and/or analytical instrumentation a plus.

*
Strong analytical and creative problem-solving with sound working knowledge of laboratory and polymer instrumentation as well as microscopy/spectroscopy a plus.

*
Highly interactive interpersonal skills for effective communication with project team members and various staff (including engineers, scientists, technicians, clients, vendors, etc).

*
Experience working in a polymer or wet chemistry laboratory environment.

The successful candidate will have excellent journaling, verbal and written communication skills to successfully follow instructions outlined in experimental test plans, request clarification from the project manager, and work equally well independently and as part of a larger team.

*
Self-motivation and a strong attention to detail are required to efficiently complete tasks outlined in experimental test plans on schedule.

*
Familiarity with laboratory documentation procedures and quality assurance concepts.

*
Creative ability to solve problems that arise without compromising data quality.

*
Ability to use Excel and Word to prepare graphs and tables for reports. A basic understanding of statistics is a plus.

*
Aptitude with tools and mechanical devices. Some projects will require physical effort (e.g., working from a 15 foot ladder or carrying 25 lbs of equipment).

*
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
