UK: Research Associate

Research Associate in the Surface Science of Chalcopyrite Leaching

Imperial College London -Department of Chemistry

Salary: £32,100 – £40,720 per annum

Fixed-term appointment for 12 months in the first instance

A Research Associate position in electrochemical surface science is currently available within the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London. The successful candidate will join an inter-disciplinary team working on the experimental characterization and modelling/simulation of mineral surfaces in ionic liquids and other solvent media. This position will involve predominantly the electrochemical, optical and structural characterization of mineral dissolution in IL and other environments.

The successful candidate will have a PhD, or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and/or experience, in Electrochemistry, Electrochemical Surface Science, Physics, or a related area. You will have an understanding of the state of the art in ionic liquids research, and be able to demonstrate experience of physical organic chemistry, measurement of solvent-solute interactions and electrochemistry, preferably with experience in IL electrochemistry. A track record in electrochemical scanning probe microscopy (EC-AFM and/or EC-STM), together with experience of electronics and circuit design, are also “must haves”.  Experience in ionic liquid would be an advantage, but is not essential.

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication. You will also have the ability to organise your own work, and prioritise in response to deadlines.
