Job Title Research Associate in Nanotoxicology and Nanometrology
Department/Division/Faculty Department of Materials and Department of Chemistry
Advert
Salary £30,680 – £36,040 per annum

South Kensington Campus

A fixed term post for 36 months

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work on a multidisciplinary, international collaboration, developing a mechanistic understanding of the pulmonary toxicology of silver and carbon nanomaterials. The project will establish how the interaction of these nanoparticles with the lung lining fluid, will impact upon their subsequent reactivity with the underlying cells. The current position will focus on nanoparticle synthesis and characterisation, including advanced Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) studies.

This post will be based in the Departments of Materials and Chemistry at Imperial College London in the groups of Dr Alexandra Porter, Dr Mary Ryan and Professor Milo Shaffer (Department of Chemistry). You will be a conscientious, innovative experimental scientist who has successfully completed a PhD (or equivalent) in Chemistry or one of the Physical Sciences.

You will work within a team of dynamic students and researchers in newly refurbished laboratories on the South Kensington Campus and have extensive interaction with several academic collaborators, both in London and in the USA. In addition to the state-of-the-art facilities within the department, you will also have access to the facilities at the London Centre for Nanotechnology and the Royal Brompton Heart and Lung Institute.

Experience of the following techniques is essential: nanoparticle synthesis, functionalisation and characterisation (e.g. SEM, XRD, Raman, EXAFS, ICP, FTIR, analytical and high resolution TEM). Previous Research Associate level experience and a proven publication record are desirable.

Priority consideration will be given to Imperial College staff at risk of redundancy
