XTREME technologies was founded in March 2001 as a Joint-Venture of Lambda Physik AG, Göttingen, and JENOPTIK AG`s subsidiary JENOPTIK Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH, Jena. In 2005 all shares from Lambda Physik were taken over from Ushio Inc., Japan.

USHIO, Inc. was established in 1964, with the aim of developing illumination and energy-related applications for light.
