Materials Modification Inc. (MMI) was founded in 1986 and has been involved in various projects funded by the Federal Government. MMI's team of Scientists and Engineers have developed several novel materials and processes by exploring creative solutions to solve tough engineering problems using their diverse backgrounds. This interdisciplinary approach has helped MMI perform research in difficult areas, where traditional boundary approaches have been unsuccessful. MMI is a pioneer in the field of nanomaterials and coating technology.

MMI personnel have published over 300 papers in archival journals and have organized several International conferences on materials and processes through ASM, TMS, and ASME. They also edit the journals "Materials and Manufacturing Processes" and "Surface Engineering", and over 5 books in the areas of "Surface Modification Technology" and "Processing and Fabrication of Advanced Materials".
