After weeks of looking, there doesn't seem to be a source of information available for companies that have proprietary IT technology in the greentech, cleantech, green nanotech, and other technology areas that have been built to product ready-to-sell. We're talking about environmentally-sensitive remediation, alternative energy, water conservation, cleanup, emissions reduction, energy recovery, insulation, oil-spill recovery, fuel efficiency, LEED construction, effluent reclaiming, and other technologies that nearly everyone agrees will benefit the planet and the human race.

With oil at $120/gallon, production from oil sands (bitumen) now makes sense, and Canada's Alberta province has become the USA's major oil source--creating a boom in Edmonton, Calgary, and Ft. McMurray. Economic councils and governmental centres are in place to foster IT development in these areas, but we're not hearing from the producers of greentech products or those who are looking for specific technology solutions for their green issues.

We're conducting a survey and writing a white paper for our consulting clients on the environmental impact of the oil sands boom in Alberta and would like to include case studies of companies on either side of the border--or offshore from North America--who have products that apply to that field and to the spillover that's taking place in population growth, water supply, construction, and other factors for a climate with a seasonal swing from -50F to +100F (-47C to +38C).

We would also like to hear from companies looking to spend money on these solutions.

Talk Abstract:
Dr. Antoniadis will present a novel concept for low cost solar energy production using silicon nanotechnology. With a mix of nanotechnology, proven silicon reliability, and ink formulations, the comp! any is developing a low-cost manufacturing platform to reduce the cost of producing electricity compared to current technologies. He will examine the promise of taking current polysilicon-based solar cells to a completely new level of cost. The high cost of production of solar cells today has been one of the major factors inhibiting the overall growth of solar energy as a market. Innovalight’s silicon nanocrystalline ink holds the promise to bring flexible solar panels to less than $0.40 per watt, nearly an order of magnitude improvement on today’s polysilicon technology.

Speaker Biography:
Dr. Homer Antoniadis is the Chief Technology Officer at Innovalight, Inc. a venture-funded technology startup developing disrupting solar power generating products based on nanosized silicon. Prior to Innovalight Dr. Antoniadis was the Head of OLED product development at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Inc. and the Program Director of the US Department of Energy program for developing light sources from light emitting polymers. He held positions at Xerox Corporation and as a principal research engineer/member of the OLED team at Hewlett-Packard Labs.
Homer has a PhD and MS in Physics from Syracuse University, and a BS in Physics from Ioannina University, Greece

We use the best available design methods balanced with practical experience to bring MEMS design concepts into manufacturing.

Modeling tools are used to simulate design perfomance before the expense of fabrication. Experimental characterization test beds are created to assess device performance during prototyping, with in-situ test structures used for monitoring process repeability and measuring material properties.
