The DNA nanotechnology research being pursued in the Seeman Laboratory address virtually all potential areas of nanotechnology commercialization and the Company has identified viable revenue models with which to deploy the considerable intellectual property under their control. Due to the unpredictable timelines of the research effort as well as the tempo and increasing momentum of outside interests in the technology, the sequence of revenue opportunities are difficult to forecast.

The Company is targeting collaborative agreements with industry partners within the next three to four years. Industry is already beginning to rapidly align itself with the limited key university research teams to acquire a knowledge base not accessible in the private sector. University research teams are years ahead of the industrial sector in knowledge about nanotechnology and how to deploy its promising applications that will change the shape of entire industries worldwide. Those who don’t embrace it immediately and acquire the knowledge necessary to retool their products, methods, and strategies necessary to integrate this technology risk losing a segment of their market or their entire business. Nanoscience Technologies is a founder in this new industrial revolution and has invaluable scientific knowledge with corresponding intellectual property to provide a critical collaboration with a select few partners.

The Company will provide the ability for a limited number of industrial partners to pursue early research issues and protocols, and develop what will become in-house research methodologies for nanotechnology based products while allowing these companies to successfully continue on their course with their current market efforts. The industrial complex is focused on near-term market objectives necessitated by the need to maintain market share and to address investor pressures on the bottom line. For most companies, the cost to properly fund an in-house research effort for products that may not be realized commercially during the next five to ten years is prohibitive. In addition, the private sector does not have access to the skills bank to mount the dynamics and the many development phases of such a research effort. In the final analysis their market future lies with the knowledge base in the university sector. In collaboration with our partners, Nanoscience Technologies will review the knowledge base and intellectual properties available. For those industrial efforts specifically in-line with the research and development initiatives of the Seeman Laboratory, the Company is targeting to reach an accord on a fee basis to assist the select companies to lay the framework for potential new processes and products. As well, the Company will identify research venues relative to DNA nanotechnology for integration in the prospective partner’s current products offerings to ensure that they remain competitive in the nano driven world to come.

In due course, various NYU developing technologies will come to fruition and be ready for commercial deployment. There are presently significant efforts underway in nanoarchitecture that will potentially effectively address medical industry venues such as drug leads as well as other key technologies, such as nanomotors. The value lies in a range of applications from aiding in self-assembly routines to electronic switching which will attract commercial partners and allow the Company to execute sub-licensing agreements for this intellectual property. These opportunities will be addressed by on-staff licensing professionals and their technical support staff that will liaise between the NYU research team and the prospective commercial partners. As these opportunities unfold in varying timelines for various commercial applications, the Company will effectively manage these opportunities.

Another key revenue prospect for the Company are the initiatives of various government agencies. On a global scale the US government appears to have committed more funds to nanotechnology research than any other government internationally. Nanotechnology relative to the military and national defense is clearly a key venue. One of the first government agency funding events for the Seeman Laboratory was the Department of the Navy based on their early recognition of the long term strategic military benefits that may evolve from the technology. The Seeman Laboratory is internationally recognized as a leader in their field and clearly presents a value proposition for government development initiatives in various agencies. The Company will endeavor to identify various government entities where our intellectual property rights may prove valuable and address the agency on a technical level to potentially contract collaborative research and/or development services contract(s).

Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research [IGCAR], the second largest establishment of the Department of Atomic Energy next to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, was set up at Kalpakkam, 80 KMs south of Chennai [MADRAS], in 1971 with the main objective of conducting broad based multidisciplinary programme of scientific research and advanced Engineering, directed towards the development of sodium cooled Fast Breeder Reactor [FBR] technology, in India. This is part of the second stage of Indian Atomic Energy Programme, which is aimed at preparing the country for utilization of the extensive Thorium reserves and providing means to meet the large demands of electrical energy in 21st century.
In meeting the objectives, a modest beginning was made by constructing a sodium cooled Fast Breeder Test Reactor [FBTR], with a nominal power of 40 Mwt, based on the French Reactor, RAPSODIE. The reactor attained its first criticality on 18th Oct, 1985 and has been in operation at its maximum attainable power level of 10.5 MWt with a small core. It is the first of its kind in the world to use Plutonium Uranium mixed carbide as a driver fuel.
Over the years, the centre has established comprehensive R & D facilities covering the entire spectrum of FBR technology related to Sodium Technology, Reactor Engineering, Reactor Physics, Metallurgy and Materials, Chemistry of Fuels and its materials, Fuel Reprocessing, Reactor Safety, Control and Instrumentation, Computer Applications etc., and has developed a strong base in a variety of disciplines related to this advanced technology.
With the experience and expertise gained by the successful operation of FBTR, the Centre has embarked upon the design and construction of 500 MWe, Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor [PFBR]. Various R & D activities in the areas of Structural Mechanics, Thermal Hydraulics and flow induced vibration, Component Testing in high temperature sodium environment, sodium-water reaction, hydraulic development of sodium pumps etc., are being pursued towards the freezing of the design of PFBR.
As a part of efforts for closing the fuel cycle, a Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant is under construction.
A 30 KWt, U233 fuelled mini reactor [KAMINI] has been made operational for neutron radiography, neutron activation analysis etc.,
IGCAR utilizes its expertise and resources in enhancing its standing as a leading Centre of research in various branches of basic, applied and engineering sciences that have a bearing on Nuclear Technology like Structural Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Material Science, Fabrication Processes, Non-Destructive Testing, Chemical sensors, High temperature thermodynamics, Radiation Physics, Computer science etc.,
Apart from thrust areas related to nuclear technology, the Centre has credentials as a leader of research in various frontier and topical subjects like Quasi crystals, Oxide superconductors, Nano-structures, clusters, SQUID fabrication programs, exopolymers and experimental simulation of condensed matter using colloids etc.,
IGCAR has extended its expertise and facilities to other vital sectors as Defence, Space and other industries of India to develop techniques for reliable solutions to specialized problems. It has collaborations with educational and R & D institutes like Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institute of Science, Pilani, Regional Engineering Colleges, National Research Laboratories, Public Units and Institutes abroad.
A modern Library comprising 62,000 volumes of books, 28,400 back volumes, about 785 journals and 1.95 lakhs reports in all disciplines caters to the technical needs of the Scientists and Engineers.
The Central Workshop is fully equipped with sophisticated machines for the fabrication of precision components.

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the seven Institutes of Technology created as centres of excellence for higher training, research and development in science, engineering and technology in India, the others being at Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Bombay, Guwahati and Roorkee. Established as College of Engineering in 1961, the Institute was later declared an Institution of National Importance under the "Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963" and was renamed "Indian Institute of Technology Delhi". It was then accorded the status of a deemed university with powers to decide its own academic policy, to conduct its own examinations, and to award its own degrees.

HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, laid the foundation stone of the Institute on January 27, 1959. The Institute was inaugurated by Prof.Humayun Kabir, the then Union Minister for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs on August 21, 1961. The Institute buildings were formally opened by Dr.Zakir Hussain, the then President of India, on March 2, 1968.

Silicon manufacturing technology is now able to shrink critical dimensions of structures down to scales well below 100 nanometers (roughly the width of the influenza virus). These nanostructures are too small to see, even with the most sophisticated imaging equipment. This presents a challenge for Intel engineers who manually inspect microprocessors to identify which nanostructures are defective, so that repairs can be made.

Silicon nanostructures are difficult to see for two reasons: First, the imaging tools used to visualize the nanostructures are not able to resolve them in great detail, so the images are very low-resolution. Secondly, most tools, once they zoom in far, provide very weak signals and add a lot of "noise" to the image-electric noise from amplification, and imaging noise created by the nature of the process being used to generate the image. Viewing these images is analogous to looking through a textured bathroom window pane at a frosted-glass object; the image is blurry and obscured by reflections.

The Computational Nanovision project team, led by Horst Haussecker, is addressing these challenges associated with nano-imaging. They are using computer vision techniques based on sophisticated mathematical models to enhance image data, and to measure and reconstruct the shape of silicon nanostructures in real time.

In carrying out their research, the team is collaborating with researchers at Brown University and MIT. As the project progresses, the team will continue to share knowledge and exchange ideas through presentations, publications, and participation in key conferences.
