After years of research FlushawayTM has perfected and patented the technology for replacing the plastic films used in napkins and liners, with its own B-9b film. This revolutionary film, enhanced by nanotechnology, has all the properties of regular plastic for the purpose of containing menstrual fluids, yet it begins to break down as soon as it comes in contact with the water in the toilet bowl. The swirling action and agitation in the bowl helps break down the napkin so that it is totally flushable. The rest of the material used in the napkins breaks apart while flowing through the pipes and biodegrades in 71 days; 66% faster than the ASTM D5988-03 International standard requires.

As there is an increased volume of receptors of LDL in certain cells as a result of a disease or inflammation reaction, the LDE tends to concentrate in these cells when injected into the bloodstream, as demonstrated in patients carrying certain types of cancer. iCell has been successful in using the LDE to formulate new therapeutic agents applied to the treatment of subset of populations with tumors over-expressing LDL receptors.

LDE - a lipid emulsion without protein

LDE is an artificially made microemulsion formed of quasi-spherical nanoparticles basically composed of a monolayer of phosphatidylcholine surrounding a core of cholesteryl esters. Small amounts of unesterified cholesterol and triglycerides are also present. LDE mimics the lipid portion of LDL and when in contact with the plasma, acquires apolipoproteins from the circulating native lipoproteins undergoing lipolysis. One of the proteins acquired by the microemulsion, apo E, is recognized by the LDL receptors. This enables the LDE particles to bind to these receptors. LDE is then removed from the circulation by LDL receptors present on the cell membrane. Once taken up by LDL receptors, LDE is internalized into the cytoplasm via LDL receptor-mediated endocytosis.

Relative to native LDL, LDE is more rapidly removed from the plasma because it binds to the receptor through Apo E, and not through apo B100 as does native LDL. The affinity of apo E for the receptor is several folds greater than that of apoB1003. Consequently the emulsion particles are even more efficiently removed by the receptors than the native LDL.

When thin films of silicon nanoparticles are deposited onto silicon substrates, ultraviolet light is absorbed and converted into electrical current. With appropriate connections, the film acts as nanosilicon photovoltaic solar cells that convert solar radiation to electrical energy.

Our first commercially available fuel cell technology will be our direct formic acid fuel cell using Formira as its fuel. Formira is our brand name for a specialized formic acid.

At Tekion, our engineering analysis has shown that one type of fuel cell technology will not satisfy all the different portable power application requirements. For example, small portable electronics like mobile phones require a certain amount of power (usually 3 watts) which must fit within a cavity of approximately 10cc to 30cc. In order for a fuel cell technology to accomplish this, it must have the capability of operating at a high power density. Out of all the direct fuel micro fuel cells, (fuel cells which do not require hydrogen to operate) the direct formic acid fuel cell technology has demonstrated the highest power density. As a result of this unique characteristic the engineers at our U.S. subsidiary, Renew Power, were able to integrate this fuel cell into a mobile phone utilizing the same space used for the battery. This was the worldТ’s first fuel cell inside a mobile phone. These same engineers also made a direct formic acid fuel cell the size of a penny and demonstrated it powering a fan. Our product family for the direct formic acid fuel cell technology will range from milliwatts for sensors to 3 5 watts for mobile phones.

As our product engineers complete the commercialization of our direct formic acid fuel cell technology, they will move forward to developing other direct liquid fueled fuel cell techologies. The applications for these other fuel cells will be determined for each by a sound business case.
