&lt;p&gt;Presenters will discuss both technical details and the larger meaning of their work, and attendees will have multiple opportunities for open dialog with the speakers.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Day one of the conference will focus on biotechnology, including both the underlying science and key applications. Day two will focus on nanotechnology, with an emphasis on the path to molecular manufacturing. Day three will look at the societal and environmental implications of nano/bio manufacturing. On the fourth day there will be assisted tours of Tucson area biotech and nanotech facilities.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The program will feature speakers covering a number of topics including: Tuberculosis and Bird Flu - New Epidemics in 2007; How to Build a Nanofactory; Military, Security, and Surveillance Issues; and more.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&quot;With this conference, we aim to provide education and interaction regarding the relationship between early generation nanotechnology and biotechnology and how each discipline might lead toward a future of exponential general-purpose molecularly-precise manufacturing,&quot; said Mike Treder, Executive Director, Center for Responsible Nanotechnology. &quot;The world is not yet fully aware of all the societal and environmental consequences that may await us.&quot;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;ADE Phase Shift was founded in Tucson as Phase Shift Technology, Inc. in 1987, by Chris Koliopoulos, Ph.D. and David Basila. The company soon offered a variety of interferometry-based products, including fringe analysis software, laser-based Fizeau interferometers, and microscope-based white light interferometers.&lt;br /&gt;
Interferometers use the natural wave properties of light, reflected from a surface to be tested, to map the tiniest surface height variations. Using interferometry, telescope mirror manufacturers gauge the quality and focus of their mirrors, and disk drive manufacturers make sure the platters used in computer disk drives are flat enough to withstand the high speeds and close quarters of the interior of a computer drive. It was Phase Shift interferometers that were used by the company that made the lenses that fixed the orbital Hubble telescope&#039;s blurred vision.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In 1998, Phase Shift Technology merged with Massachusetts-based ADE Corporation, a manufacturer of metrology equipment for the semiconductor and data storage industries. Since that time, the company has been called ADE Phase Shift.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;ADE Phase Shift now makes products with applications for the measuring of the surface topology of polished silicon wafers, as well as systems for measuring critical surfaces in the hard disk industry, and many needs of optics manufacturers.&lt;/p&gt;

Double-wall nanotubes -- which TMC&#039;s pending patent defines as nanotubes with two to five walls -- offer performance equal or better than single wall nanotubes (SWNT) for conduction and emission of electrons, but show significantly longer useful lifetimes, translating to more practical, cost-effective devices.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Application developers have been limited using CNT due to quality and availability constraints.  TMC aims to serve billion dollar global markets in areas as diverse as batteries, solar cells, displays, medical imaging and diagnostics devices.  Lab tests bode well both at TMC, and at facilities of potential customers to whom we provided samples.  Compared to other nanotubes, DWNT require lower voltage to produce a given amount of current and have longer service lifetime  two important plusses in TMC&#039;s target applications.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;TMC licensed process and composition of matter patents pending from Fullerene International Corporation (FIC), and obtained equipment, experienced personnel and know-how from MER Corporation, that enable production of DWNT with true mass yield in the 90%+ purity range.  MER first made fullerenes and nanotubes commercially, starting in 1992, and remains a leader in production and new applications R&amp;amp;D.&lt;/p&gt;
