Business Re-Engineering provides insight on the state of nanotechnology from an industry perspective and highlights fundamental applications, environmental issues, and how to finance and run a successful nanotech venture. This intensive 3-day program consists of classroom style lectures, group discussions and requires completion of a mini-business proposal.

Nanotech 100 BE: Introduction to Nanotechnology
An overview of the fundamental and applications of nanoscience and nanotechnology including nanoelectronics, nanomaterials, nanobiotechnology, nanomedicine and societal implications of the emerging industry.

Nanotech 120 BE: Nanotech Business: an Overview
An overview of the current market analysis, market trends and economic drivers of
nanotechnology.

Nanotech 140 BE: Environmental Health and Safety Implications of Nanotechnology
A brief overview of the Environmental Protection Agency’s perspectives on the impact of
nanomaterials and nano-composites, within their framework of green chemistry initiative.

Nanotech 220 BE: Essentials of Patent & Intellectual Property
An overview of patents, trademarks, trade secret, how to avoid patent infringement in the
emerging field of nanotechnology.

Nanotech 240 BE: Technology Licensing & Corporate Strategic Alliance
An introduction to technology transfer and technology licensing. Guidelines of how to find and negotiate a potential corporate partners and entering into strategic alliance in market and sales distribution for a start-up nanotech company in working with an major corporate partner.

Nanotech 320 BE: Financing a Start-up Enterprise in Emerging Technology
An overview of financing strategies and practical guidelines on how to raise seed money,
venture capital and how to apply for government research and development grants.

Nanotech 340 BE: Initial Public Offering Options for a High Growth Enterprise
An overview of the Initial Public Offering process, various stock exchanges in the USA, Europe
and Asia and case studies on successful IPO of emerging high growth companies in nanotech
industry.

Nanotech 440 BE: Nanotech Business Re-Engineering Mini Proposal
A step-by-step guideline on how to develop a mini business plan which can be presented to a potential investors and/or corporate stakeholders. Group discussion and business plan presentation will be a part of the course work.

Business Re-Engineering Level II- Industry Specific (20 Hours Total)

Nanotech 540 BE: Nanotech Business Re-Engineering- Case Studies
An advanced seminar on how to develop a formal business plan which can be presented
to potential investors and/or corporate stakeholders. Guest lecturers will include some
leading venture capitalists who will review actual business plan contest.

Nanotech 620 BE: Investment in Emerging Nanomaterials Companies
A seminar on market analysis and trends, investment opportunities and pitfall on investing in emerging technology companies.

Nanotech 625 BE: Nanotech Business Re-Engineering Presentation and Group Discussion

REQUIREMENTS:

The programs are designed to meet the needs of business executives, technical managers and academic professors in order to further advance their professional development in the high growth industries in nanotechnology, biotechnology, clean tech and related industries. Candidates must meet the following requirements:

1. Currently employed in the field of nanotechnology, biotechnology, clean tech or related industry; or from public education organizations such as universities, community colleges and technical institutes.

2. Meet the prerequisite requirements:
Business Re-Engineering - B.S. with 3 years of industry experience or equivalent
Train the Trainer - B.S. with 5 years of industry experience or PhD with 2 years of industry experience or equivalent

3. Participation in good faith: Participant agrees to take part in the classroom training and workshop in good faith and will communicate with the program organizers, instructors and staff with constructive input and feedback as to improve the quality of the training program in the future. Participants agrees to abide to the classroom best practice and show courtesy to instructors and other participants.

4. Residents of San Bernardino County have priority registration, although Non-San Bernardino County Residents are encouraged to register.
