The objective of theISNEPP series of symposia is to advance the emerging field of Nanotechnology in the areas of environmental protection and remediation, public health, energy resources and production, and standards and regulation.

The purpose of the International Conference on "NT Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety: Research to Practice" is to advance this emerging field with respect to: the protection and promotion of worker safety and health in nanomanufacturing enterprises/environment and consumer public health, and the prevention and treatment of occupational diseases through the use of NT.

This event will examine technologies that offer real environmental benefit, and will also review the findings of the recently published STOA report on the Role of Nanotechnology in Chemical Substitution.

The day-long training course will cover a diverse range of topics essential for professionals in nanotechnology and biotechnology, with nationally recognized experts from industry, academia, and government leading each topic. Participants will include government regulators, corporate decision makers, and scientists in the field. Topics will include a discussion of the current understanding of nanomaterial risks, EHS state-of-the-practice in companies involved with nanomaterials, a discussion of current and anticipated regulatory developments in the field, a primer on the toxicology of nanomaterials (including ecotoxicological issues), and an assessment of appropriate occupational safety and health practices associated with these technologies.

NANOTEC2008 will show how nanotechnology can lead to the development of a new generation of products, devices and processes which can revolutionise sectors of great relevance. The agenda will mirror the objectives of the Strategic Programme launched by the Italian Government, Industry 2015, which focus also on themes that are at the front line at world level:

• Energy efficiency;
• Sustainable mobility;
• New technologies for life sciences;
• New technologies for Made in Italy;
• Innovative technologies to preserve the cultural heritage.
