tousimis research corporation (formerly Biodynamics Research Corporation) was organized in 1962 under the laws of the District of Columbia. Our company was founded to carry out basic research in areas related to the ultrastructure of matter and to correlate these findings with dynamic experiments. Our goal was, and still is, to develop and perfect instrumentation and products to be used in laboratories where similar studies are carried out. This idea (which has been the basis for our company for the past 41 years) was that of scientific pioneer Dr. A. J. Tousimis, President and CEO of tousimis research corporation.

Today we are pleased to present our listing of research chemicals, supplies, accessories, and instruments for the electron microscopy and analysis laboratory. The majority of items listed were developed in our laboratories where the demand for high quality and reliable instruments continues. Intradigm is developing siRNA-derived cancer therapeutics utilizing its proprietary RNAi technology. Intradigm has led the advancement of siRNA from the test tube to a potent, tissue-targeted, systemically active therapeutic class of gene specific inhibitors. The Company believes that it is the first to demonstrate consistent and reproducible siRNA activity in animal disease models through targeted formulations of siRNA for systemic administration. Based upon the Company’s unique technology and capabilities for developing systemic tissue targeted formulations of siRNA and its ability to achieve efficacy in clinically relevant animal disease models, Intradigm has established an impressive cancer therapeutic product development program with its lead product, ICS-283, now in advanced pre-clinical development.

The Company’s initial focus is on siRNA inhibition of the VEGF pathway targeted to the angiogenic neovasculature. The siRNA formulated product can be used for the treatment of many serious diseases that result from excessive and unwanted angiogenesis, such as colon cancer, lung cancer and many other solid tumors as well as other angiogenesis based diseases such as ocular neovascularization. Intradigm has utilized its proprietary TargeTranÔ technology to develop siRNA formulations which can be systemically delivered and specifically targeted to neovasculature. This targeted, specific sequence siRNA, utilizing innovative layered nanoparticle technology, has been successfully evaluated in several angiogenesis disease animal models with demonstrated efficacy. Intradigm has identified colon cancer as the first indication to evaluate for its systemically administered VEGF pathway siRNA and expects to file an IND within the next 12 months.

In addition to its therapeutic product focus, Intradigm has taken advantage of its portfolio of in vivo siRNA technologies to establish a target validation service business to satisfy the growing demand for utilizing the Company’s powerful capabilities to achieve in vivo activity of RNAi. Intradigm currently has technology effective for a variety of local and systemic administration routes to offer pharmaceutical clients in their quest to validate their vast numbers of novel targets. Intradigm is rapidly expanding its repertoire of relevant animal models in which it has demonstrated siRNA activity for this in vivo target validation service. Intradigm will continue to expand these revenue generating collaborations in parallel with advancing development of its own therapeutic products.

Organized by Drs. Paul Sieving and Richard Fisher of the NEI, the course features streaming video of speakers with their corresponding PowerPoint presentation slides. The seven-presentation course runs approximately three hours. Each presentation can be viewed separately and ranges from seven to 35 minutes in length. A online transcript of the course is also available.

The course introduces fundamental concepts, including changes in the properties of materials at the nanoscale, and the potential of nanotechnology and its application to biomedical sciences. The underlying physical sciences, conveyed by renowned experts in nanoscience, are emphasized and the course includes examples of NEI-funded studies of either applied or fundamental nanoscience in vision research.

The use of colloidal gold as a human therapeutic dates back to the 1930's when it was shown to temporarily relieve joint inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis.Yet the lack of understanding of its mechanism of action has limited its therapeutic potential. The Company believes that the potential for colloidal gold in medicine is very broad, and, through an aggressive patent strategy the Company will seek to capture both its therapeutic and commercial potential.

The Company made a rather surprising observation: animals injected with native cytokine exhibited strong toxicological responses, whereas animals receiving injections of cytokines bound to colloidal gold did not. This singular observation lead us to conclude that colloidal gold may be a universal, clinically safe, commercially sound drug/gene delivery system.

While there have been numerous advances in genomic research tools, limited progress has been made in the development of effective tools for proteomic research. Thousands of "druggable" protein targets - the primary site of drug action Т– have yet to be researched. As a result, there is a tremendous unmet need in both the drug discovery and diagnostic industries for tools that enable increased understanding of proteins and their functions and interactions.
Protiveris intends to fulfill the promise of proteomics by developing technology and instrumentation that will establish a standard of performance and revolutionize drug discovery research.

Microcantilevers offer a highly flexible, label-free sensor platform for detecting small molecules and proteins in either liquid or gas environments.

Microcantilevers's sensitivity allows for use of nanoliters of sample volumes, thereby preserving precious reagents such as chemical libraries. Furthermore, samples to be analyzed do not require exhaustive manipulation or labeling - no dyes, fluorescents, stains, or tracers. Label-free detection not only reduces costs and experiment time, but more specifically, eliminates the conformational changes that can alter binding properties and functionality. The sensitivity of Protiveris's specially designed microcantilevers for ultra-low force detection, combined with the flexibility of Protiveris's arrays, make this technology superior to existing biosensor technologies.

To facilitate the regulation of nanotechnology products, the Agency has formed a NanoTechnology Interest Group (NTIG) which is made up of representatives from all the Centers. The NTIG meets quarterly to ensure there is effective communication between the Centers. Most of the Centers also have working groups that establish the network between their different components.
