We are pleased to announce that the IEEE Nanotechnology Council is organizing the 7th IEEE International Conference on Nanotechnology on 24 – 26 July 2007 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong SAR.

Nanotechnology research has focus primarily on molecular manufacturing -- the creation of tools, materials, and machines that will eventually enable us "to snap together the fundamental building blocks of nature easily, inexpensively and in most of the ways permitted by the laws of physics." A leading nanotech scientist describes past efforts at molecular level manufacturing as attempts to assemble LEGO pieces while wearing boxing gloves. Nanotechnology, he believes, will enable us to take off the gloves and build extraordinary things.

The Nano-FOTOCIDE Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO) Technology Air/Water Treatment Disinfection Unit provides the most efficient system for the removal of bacteria and pollutants from air and water. As Air/water passes through the unit, pollutants come into contact with the nano-coated Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) honeycomb filter/stainless steel spiral core, triggering off the PCO process whereby harmful pollutants are oxidized and converted into the harmless end products of carbon dioxide and water.

There are four core areas:

* Nano-material fabrications: Integrated manufacturing technologies for nanomaterials including CNTs and fullerenes, and nanoparticles including organic and inorganic compounds. Three existing nanotechnology projects - batteries, transistors and catalysts - will be incorporated into the Institute management to maximize the synergistic benefits.
* Nanobatteries: Lithium batteries and microfuel cells based on ultra-small carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, nanoporous membranes and nanoparticles.
* Nanoelectronics: Transistors and displays based on ultra-fine nanostructures made with organic and inorganic materials.

The Institute with these four core areas will serve as a regional and international focal point for advances in nanotechnology.
