American Elements is the world leader in nanopowder, nano particle, submicron, - 325 mesh, shot and high surface area metal and powder with particle distribution and particle size controlled and certified. We produce larger 40 mesh, Ц– 100 mesh, -200 mesh range sizes and < 0.5 mm, 2 mm, 5 mm and other mm size shot, granules, lump, flake and pieces, too. Our technical teams are experts in not just the chemical properties of advanced materials, but also their physical properties.

American Elements is capable of producing most compounds in the submicron and nanopowder rangeand metallic powders in sizes as low as 325 mesh. Surface areas as high as 140 m2/g have been achieved. Certain catalytic metallic powders, such as platinum, can be produced in the submicron range. If you are working with a material that is not in our catalog, but you require it in the submicron range, we can probably produce it.

American Elements can Ц“grow larger then typical particle sizes for materials to, for example, create particle distributions in the 20 to 70 micron range for materials that are naturally produced in the 2 to 8 micron range. This allows for their use in plasma spray guns and in other deposition technologies that can be blocked by particles that are either too small or too large for the delivery system.

American Elements can also achieve very high surface area ranges up to 130 square meters per gram for catalytic, electronic and pharmaceutical requirements and produce both wide and narrow particle distributions.

American Elements physical morphology capabilities include attrition, ball and jet milling, particle growth through calcination and co-precipitation and screening classification. Analysis and certification include particle distribution by laser diffraction, BET surface area analysis, phase analysis by X-ray diffraction and SEM.

The goal for this Center is to investigate and manipulate the complex cell signaling/regulatory network circuitries in a time-resolved dynamic manner in order to not only enhance our understanding of individual pathways but also provide vital information on their co-dependence and interactivities for the potential of controlling the cell phenotype. Our unique approach employs a systemic view of controlling networks that has the ability to i) perturb the cellular network circuitry, ii) conduct real time monitoring of the key signaling elements, iii) interpret and analyze the system's response, and iv) use a global system control algorithm to dissect and analyze the cellular network circuitry. This approach addresses the NIH's vision on NDC that “ decisions on the biological systems…guided by the principle that the precise control required to manipulate cellular components will depend upon understanding and using engineering principles”. Our objective is not only to extend our understandings of local interactions of cellular components but also globally control cellular functions through a network of circuitries.

UCLA's Nanoelectronics Research Facility (NRF) is open to UCLA faculty and principal investigators, as well as non-UCLA researchers, for a modest hourly charge. Safety and equipment training is provided by lab management at no additional cost to users. The facility is open 7 days a week from 6AM- Midnight.
Users are charged a modest lab usage fee, which allows use of microscopes, fume hoods, and chemical processing. More complicated equipment, such as metal evaporators and dry etchers, require specialized training and an additional usage fee. Invoicing is done on a monthly basis.

Users are asked to furnish their own substrates. Deposition sources currently available are aluminum, titanium and aluminum/silicon. Gold and platinum are available with an additional charge. Clean room supplies and safety equipment are provided by the lab.
