Faraday Discussion 143 will incorporate aspects of structuring soft-materials at the nanoscale and the incorporation of such materials into actual devices.

The use of nanoscale materials is constantly expanding to play a role in an ever increasing number of industries. This can be as the actual product (e.g. electronics, packaging), as a nanocomposite, as an active or functional material, or as part of the manufacturing process (such as a substrate for biomaterials).

The RSC Biomaterials Chemistry Interest Group was set up in 2005 to provide a focus for groups in UK universities and industry working on the synthesis and characterisation of biomaterials.

Even greater challenges exist in bringing affordable, safe medicines to a wide population, and in enabling the elderly to remain active and maintain their faculties for as long as possible.
