NANOTEC2008 will show how nanotechnology can lead to the development of a new generation of products, devices and processes which can revolutionise sectors of great relevance. The agenda will mirror the objectives of the Strategic Programme launched by the Italian Government, Industry 2015, which focus also on themes that are at the front line at world level:

• Energy efficiency;
• Sustainable mobility;
• New technologies for life sciences;
• New technologies for Made in Italy;
• Innovative technologies to preserve the cultural heritage.

Long description

Nanotechnology, the ability to observe and manipulate matter at nanoscale, in the range between 1 and 100 nanometres, is considered one of the drivers capable of shaping the technological evolution of the XXI Century. In the past years all over the world increasing human and economical resources have been devoted to this sector. Nano-related products are already available on the market, but the full impact of nanotechnology has yet to be realised. The expectations are high.

NANOTEC2008, jointly organised by Airi/Nanotec IT, Veneto Nanotech and Regione Veneto, intends to:

• Give a comprehensive picture of nanotechnology at Italian level in relation to activity, perspectives and needs, in comparison to what happens in other countries;
• Present the latest developments and trends in terms of R&D, applications and governance at world level;
• Offer the opportunity for a debate amongst representatives of industry, public research and governmental bodies;
• Stimulate initiatives of cooperation, coordination and support aimed to promote and make more effective the efforts in this field.

A session will be specifically devoted to the responsible development of nanotechnology, crucial for the success of this technology.

Call for papers
Those interested to present a poster or an oral presentation are invited to submit a short abstract to info@nanotec2008.it by January 18th, 2008 (abstract guidelines at: www.nanotec2008.it).

Position 7PQ: Capacities. Science in Society

Goal: to spread and help the new scientific nanotechnology border with a shared job between researchers and artists.

After the European Board selection it will be established the OTHER BORDERS COMBINE.

Company structure: functional

Development and general schedule: 6 nanotechnology arguments will be touched:
A) Nano and macro world
B) Photovoltaic
C) Nanomedicine
D) Ethic
E) Environmental impact
F) New materials

1. For every arguments the project director will choose 2 scientific coordinators and 2 artistic
coordinators, in all there will be 12 coordinators.

2. Everybody’s function will be to select 3 artists and 3 researchers for their specific argument
and for their skills (artistic or scientific).

At the end there will be in all 18 artists and 18 researchers. Every argument will be examined by 8 people – 1 artistic coordinator, 1 scientific coordinator, 3 artists, 3 researchers.
Every artist/researcher will be chosen on the base of one essential characteristic: multifeeling.
Every work team will meet, compare ideas, produce things throughout a period of 2 years.
All the works will be presented and exposed time by time in scientific parks, scientific museums, HiTech fairs, etc…to be seen/listened/read/touched by all the visitors.
The European and Extra European tour coordination will be decided between the partners. Every tour will last two years.
At the end of the tour, all the works will be back in Italy and exposed in different places where conferences, meetings, congresses will be based on the 6 big arguments with the presence of every coordinator, artist and researcher in conjunction with well-known world guests.

.OTHERBORDERS will be repeated every 7 years and will be presented at every PQ supporting the European Community program.

Introduction
The fourth edition of Nanochallenge and Polymerchallenge 2008, an International business plan competition on nanotechnology and polymer-based materials, has selected 14 finalist teams among the 40 start-up projects received. Veneto Nanotech, Italian Cluster of Nanotechnology, and IMAST Technological District on Polymeric and Composite Materials Engineering and Structures, have organized the 2008 edition of the competition with two Grand Prizes of € 300.000 each. The event is supported by Fondazione Cassa Di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo, Veneto Sviluppo, Regione Veneto, Regione Campania.

Investor Session
November 27th 2008
During the Nanochallenge and Polymerchallenge Final Contest, to be held at the University of Padova, the Italian Cluster for Nanotechnology has organized an Investor Session, an open doors day dedicated to investors and business people. They will have the possibility to meet face to face the 14 International start-ups and discuss about funding and partnerships.
The event will gather top scientists in the nanotechnology field, international public and private investors and entrepreneurs. Each team will have a slot of 20 minutes to present his innovative and business plan. In the adjacent room, the start-up teams will be available to talk in 1to1 meetings with people interested in understanding the technology and their business project.

The Investor Session represents a networking event where venture capitalists, corporations, entrepreneurs and business people can identify the most promising technologies and business opportunities in the nanotechnology and polymer-based materials sector.
