The Nanotechnology Research Institute (NRI) is a new world-class research complex at the University of Ulster’s Jordanstown campus. Its purpose built facilities house some of the most sophisticated nano fabrication, manipulation and characterisation equipment in the world. It is also staffed by an internationally recognised team of researchers and academics. The NRI builds on the long pedigree of research and commercial success enjoyed by its adjoining sister building - the Northern Ireland Bioengineering Centre (NIBEC).

The NRI represents a consolidation of five advanced functional materials research groups (28 full time academics), dealing with thin film material types used in electronic, photonics, nanotechnology, sensor, MEMS, optical, environmental, magnetic and bio-materials devices and tissue engineering. The multi-disciplinary nature of the expertise at NRI makes this a unique nanotechnology centre, with strong capabilities in physics, chemistry, materials, biology and engineering, combining in a dedicated and focused collaborative environment.
