There were over three billion biochemical assays performed in the United States, European Union and Japan in 2000 that cost over $24 billion(B) to perform. Most were done in 96 or 384 well plates in 50-299 microliter(uL) volumes. These relatively large volumes necessitate the creation of extensive infrastructures for generating, storing and disposing of the required reagents and labware. Attendant problems include evaporation, air bubbles, long incubation times and reagent stability all of which limit boththroughput and quality of data.

Nanolytics' proprietary technology eliminates all of these problems. We provide an open platform for controlling precisely the dispensing, movement and positioning of nanoliter scale droplets (nanodroplets). Theextant platform consists of a biochip containing 10,000 "virtual" wells each of which defines a nanodroplet, and a computer-controlled microactuator to move and position the nanodroplets independently. "Open platform" means it is compatible with any current assay protocol, it is capable of running multiple protocols on the same chip and it can be reconfigured "on-the-fly". The use of nanodroplets means that compared to that of traditional plates, assay density is increased by 50-200 fold, incubation times are decreased by 100 fold, and all reagents can be decreased by 1000 fold. These advantages mean that assay throughput is increased 5,000-20,000 fold. Coupled with the fact that our platform is compatible with existing assay facilities and instrumentation, it is clear that Nanolytics has the ability to change dramatically the way all assays will be done for the foreseeable future.

Energy Savings for Rack Mounted Servers: Nisvara has developed novel efficient ways of cooling computers. What is described herein is an initial experiment performed by Nisvara, Inc. in measuring the total operating power and component temperature of a single proof-of-concept server as the server components are cooled. The systems improved efficiency is accomplished by utilizing a direct thermal-ground, an analog of electrical-ground developed by Nisvara.

This small-scale un-optimized proof-of-concept experiment shows an energy savings of 4.6 watts for each 1.0 watt of cooling power (by using the thermal ground principle) in comparison to current industry methods, of a waste of 2-3 watts of cooling power for each watt of computer power(1). In summary;
Nisvara ’s total system approach in this small-scale experiment results in; saving 4.6 Watts of computing power per each Watt of additional cooling energy used
Whereas, the current industrys method of blowing cool air into a room to cool equipment results in only; 0.33 watts of savings of computing power per each Watt of additional cooling energy used.
So, it appears Nisvara ’s technology approach is 14X more efficient.
In this small-scale experiment, of the total power consumed by both the server and cooling system, the cooling system uses only 13% of the total power.
Innovative Approach: Total equipment and rack level solution for cooling, compared to the component level cooling done all other companies. This is made possible by Nisvara patented Thermal Ground, Thermal Bridge and other conductive cooling. Heat from all sources are transferred to a Thermal Ground (akin to the electrical ground) by Nisvara's product suite of efficient and passive conduction devices.
Competition: Bulky component level solution with problems of additional power / energy, space and weight. No improvement in equipment level cooling. They are very expensive. Many competitors have already spent multi million dollars with the product still in development.

When an electric field is applied to a ferroelectric crystal, the central atom moves in the direction of the field. As the atom moves within the crystal, it passes through an energy barrier, causing a charge spike. Internal circuits sense the charge spike and set the memory. If the electric field is removed from the crystal, the central atom stays in position, preserving the state of the memory. Therefore, the FRAM memory needs no periodic refresh and when power fails FRAM memory retains its data. It's fast, and doesn't wear out!

FRAM memory technology is compatible with industry standard CMOS manufacturing processes. The ferroelectric thin film is placed over CMOS base layers and sandwiched between two electrodes. Metal interconnect and passivation complete the process.
