When thin films of silicon nanoparticles are deposited onto silicon substrates, ultraviolet light is absorbed and converted into electrical current. With appropriate connections, the film acts as nanosilicon photovoltaic solar cells that convert solar radiation to electrical energy.

The process of producing silicon nanoparticles is supported by 10 issued US patents, 7 pending US patents, 2 issued foreign counterpart patents and 19 pending foreign counterpart patents.

Our research and development work involves integrating films of silicon nanoparticles on glass surfaces in order to convert solar energy coming through home and office windows into electricity, without losing significant transparency or requiring major changes in manufacturing infrastructure.

For 200 years the basic theory of obtaining electricity from the energy potential which exists between different materials has been the foundation upon which the advances have been made in technology. In 1989, Ab Europositron was founded to pursue a radical new theory which had been propounded by Mr Rainer Partanen concerning one of the materials which had been investigated before but had always run into the same difficulties, namely the apparently insurmountable problem recharging a sealed cell battery using aluminium. Rainer Partanen has progressed the theory to the point of detailed specifications of cell construction, the electrochemistry involved and has registered patents covering all the necessary areas.

The fundamental basis of the Partanen technology can be applied to all formats of batteries, from tiny button batteries to high capacity stand-by power supplies. Using one of the most abundant metals available and incorporating existing manufacturing processes, this is an avenue which demands and deserves investigation to fruition.

Our first commercially available fuel cell technology will be our direct formic acid fuel cell using Formira as its fuel. Formira is our brand name for a specialized formic acid.

At Tekion, our engineering analysis has shown that one type of fuel cell technology will not satisfy all the different portable power application requirements. For example, small portable electronics like mobile phones require a certain amount of power (usually 3 watts) which must fit within a cavity of approximately 10cc to 30cc. In order for a fuel cell technology to accomplish this, it must have the capability of operating at a high power density. Out of all the direct fuel micro fuel cells, (fuel cells which do not require hydrogen to operate) the direct formic acid fuel cell technology has demonstrated the highest power density. As a result of this unique characteristic the engineers at our U.S. subsidiary, Renew Power, were able to integrate this fuel cell into a mobile phone utilizing the same space used for the battery. This was the worldТ’s first fuel cell inside a mobile phone. These same engineers also made a direct formic acid fuel cell the size of a penny and demonstrated it powering a fan. Our product family for the direct formic acid fuel cell technology will range from milliwatts for sensors to 3 5 watts for mobile phones.

As our product engineers complete the commercialization of our direct formic acid fuel cell technology, they will move forward to developing other direct liquid fueled fuel cell techologies. The applications for these other fuel cells will be determined for each by a sound business case.
