The range of research opportunities facing the Nanotechnology Center and its collaborative partners is truly unlimited. UALR and its researchers have patent applications already in process for breakthroughs in carbon nanotube synthesis, tissue engineering, mixing technology, cancer treatment, and solar energy. Below is a digest of just some of the areas in which UALR is strategically focusing its future research in nanotechnology.

* Development of new nanostructural composite materials with applications in sensors, nanoelectronics, and nanocomputing
* Creation of new polymeric nanocomposite materials with reduced surface energy and low friction
* Development of new nanostructural materials for tissue and bone regeneration
* Experiments on new methods to deliver metallic nanoparticles to cancerous tissue and the inducement of apoptosis

NanoMech has developed an extremely flexible and effective process for the creation of nanostructured coatings at production scale onto 2D and 3D objects. The process can be applied using particles in the form of dry powder, or dispensed in a slurry or aerosol form. The particles can be nanometer, micrometer or a combination of sizes.
