Memjet technology is comprised of four tightly integrated components: page-width printheads, driver chips, ink and software. Printheads are comprised of individual microchip segments, joined together into page-width printing systems. Each chip measures just 20mm across and contains 6,400 nozzles. The printheads incorporate five color channels that can be flexibly configured to meet the needs of diverse markets. The driver chip is an integrated printing system that calculates 900 million drops per second and drives 70,400 nozzles in a standard A4/letter printer, delivering color page-width printing at 60 pages per minute. The Memjet software is highly portable and modular, allowing software developers to drive Memjet printers at rated speed and quality avoiding the details of printhead, nozzles or hardware. Printheads and driver chips can scale from 20mm to large format sizes, enabling printing in virtually any width. Customized water-based inks ensure great print quality whether printing photos, office documents or industrial labels.

Apogee was organized as a Delaware corporation in 1987, and initially operated through its wholly owned subsidiary, Apogee Acoustics Incorporated. Applied MEMS originated as the MEMS R&D organization for Input/Output, with the mandate to develop a manufacturable, robust, micro-g accelerometer that would enable the world's first digital multi-component seismic sensor for the oil and gas exploration industry. The goal was achieved and it was commercialized as the VectorSeis seismic sensor, which represents a paradigm shift for the oil and gas exploration industry. VectorSeis offers performance and field deployment advantages over conventional seismic geophones. VectorSeis has energized new thinking on how to further apply MEMS technology to the various aspects of the oil and gas field life cycle, from exploration through appraisal drilling and production from the well.

The seismic accelerometer program helped Applied MEMS establish a state-of-the art MEMS organization, intellectual property portfolio, and facility that can be applied to meet the MEMS product and service needs of our customers. Input/Output and Applied MEMS have a synergistic relationship - Input/Output can be viewed as a built-in investor and customer for Applied MEMS, and Applied MEMS is effectively a non-captive foundry for MEMS end users.

In 2000 we founded Silex Microsystems AB, backed by top MEMS scientists and a roster of well-known reference customers. And the goal of becoming an industry leader in MEMS technology worldwide.

Now we have 40 employees, 31 directly involved in development and manufacturing and 9 hold doctorates in MEMS technology. More importantly, our people are specialists in our customers’ industries.
