Requisition number: DCL20100626-1

VACANCY FOR PHD POSITION
National University of Singapore (NUS) NUSNNI Nanocore Institute has created a Diabetes Core Lab (DCL) in collaboration with King Saud University, which is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure. The main objective of DCL is the development of commercially-relevant and clinically-oriented closed loop system for diabetic monitoring and management, which would include highly sensitive glucose sensor and transdermal insulin delivery system using based approaches. The project has got tremendous significance as Diabetes has been declared as the global epidemic by WHO, IDF and ADA. Keeping the blood glucose level within the physiological level is the only way that can enable the diabetics to live a normal healthy life.
Applications are now invited for the following position based in DCL.

Topic of Research: “Development of novel transdermal insulin delivery system for diabetics using based approaches.”

Supervisors: Prof. Fwu-Shan Sheu; Prof Giorgia Pastorin; Dr Sandeep K. Vashist

The individual will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, consisting of medical surgeons, biologists, physicists, chemists and engineers. The candidate will work towards the development of novel transdermal insulin delivery system using the based approaches generated within the group. There will be particular emphasis on the development of novel transdermal insulin delivery strategies, and their characterization and optimisation by qualitative and quantitative techniques. Highly motivated persons with good analytical skills and flavour for research are encouraged to apply.

Postgraduate applicants should have a good honours degree in biomedical or related discipline. Previous experience in relevant research areas, especially in surface functionalization, conjugation chemistries, cytotoxicity determination, polymer synthesis, nanoparticle characterization, nanomedicine and drug delivery, would be an advantage.

Closing date for receipt of applications is: 30th July 2010 [5pm (GMT+8)].
