| Post doctoral and full time engineering positions are available for PhD level scientists interested in an industry sponsored million dollar project to develop a sensor array for fluid identification in a down-hole oil well environment. We are looking for interesting and motivated applicants with a strong publication record related to micro sensor development and characterization. This project will provide opportunities to publish high impact publications and offers the chance to be a part of a new and exciting spin off company. Experience in the fields of micro-calorimetry, micro fluidics, microfabrication, resonant sensors, or micro electrode electrochemistry is required for this project. One of our research focuses is the development of microstructurally tailored alloys for sensing applications. Several candidate material systems have been developed by our group over the last five years for extreme environment applications. Our group website can be found at http://www.ualberta.ca/CMENG/Mitlin-Group/ The next stage in this project is the microfabrication, testing, and incorporation of these sensing devices into a functioning microsensor array capable of detecting the composition of oil, water and gas mixtures. We are looking for candidates having a strong instrumentation background with experience in low level analog measurement electronics. The project requirements allow for significant flexibility in the technology used to detect composition. We encourage applicants to suggest potential projects or sensors that fit into the research goal of detecting the composition of an unknown mixture of oil, water and gas.
