Infineon Technologies was founded on April 1, 1999, as a wholly owned Siemens company comprised of all of Siemens' semiconductor activities. This was in preparation for the planned public offering of a part of Infineon, which took place on March 13, 2000 at the Frankfurt and New York stock exchanges. By End of 2001 Siemens has reduced its economic ownership of Infineon Shares to 41.3 percent. 13.2 percent are owned by the Siemens Pension Trust and 45.5 percent are free float. Free float in terms of voting rights is 64 percent.

Today, Infineon Technologies is one of the world's ten leading semiconductor manufacturers, and occupies the number 2 position in Europe. With 16 manufacturing sites and 27 research and development locations in Asia, Europe and the US, we employ approximately 30,000 people on three continents. This workforce develops, markets and sells basic products for the information and communications industry. Infineon Technologies AG has achieved sales of 5.671 billion US $ in 2001 and now ranks number nine worldwide in semiconductor revenues.

With its four business groups Wireline Communications, Secure Mobile Solutions, Automotive & Industrial and Memory Products, Infineon is offering comprehensive solutions for a broad range of semiconductor products. Important target markets are: access, Wide Area Networks (WAN), Metropolitan Networks (MAN), and Local Area Networks (LAN), optical networks, mobile communications and networks, access control and network security (telecommunications, banking, health care, e- and m-commerce) car electronics (airbag, ABS, navigation systems) industrial drives and power supplies, as well as PCs and notebooks, workstations and server.

Infineon has leading know-how in key technologies such as high performance DRAMs and specialty memory products (e.g. for networks, servers, routers, mobile-RAM and graphics), leadership in 300mm wafer production, 10-40 Gigabit optical networking, mixed signal and radio frequency expertise for mobile communications as well as chip card technologies, security- and identsystem-ICs.

A worldwide network of research and development centers along with frontend and backend manufacturing plants located on three continents is the basis for our technology and cost leadership in key segments of the semiconductor market as well as highest quality standards for our products and excellent system expertise.
