One of the key factors contributing to the success of BigBangwidth is the talent pool available. The University of Alberta, located in Edmonton, is one of the largest engineering schools in Canada and graduates typically go to centers of technology such as Ottawa or Silicon Valley as well as staying in Edmonton. Overall, there is a ready talent pool available in Edmonton as well as a scientific and continuing source of new graduates.
Recent layoffs at leading telecom equipment suppliers and optical component suppliers have increased the companys ability to repatriate employees back to Edmonton.
In a recent announcement, the Canadian and Alberta governments have committed to the creation of a $128 million NanoTechnology Center in Edmonton. This center will be created through the National Research Council and attract leading edge scientists to the Edmonton community.
