CEO/ President :
James A. Greer

While employed at Raytheons Research Division, Dr. James A. Greer demonstrated proto-type equipment with ability to scale the PLD process up to 200 mm in size. Dr. Greer left Raytheon and founded PVD Products in 1995 to develop and sell large-area Pulsed Laser Deposition systems. Dr. Greer won a Phase II SBIR from Wright Patterson Air Force Base to develop a PLD system to handle up to 5-inch diameter substrates. This machine was specifically designed to grow HTS materials and it has been used to grow high quality YBCO on LaAlO3 substrates up to 100 mm in diameter. The outcome of this SBIR was the PLD 5000 system. In 1996 PVD Products was merged into Epion Corporation. While at Epion, Dr. Greer continued to develop and sell large-area PLD systems as well as other thin film processing tools including Gas Cluster Ion Beam sources and evaporators. PLD 5000 and a smaller PLD 3000 systems are now operating in labs worldwide. In September 2000, a company interested in Gas Cluster Ion Beam technology purchased Epion Corporation. At this time, Dr. Greer decided to leave Epion and pursue large-area PLD as well as other physical vapor deposition techniques. Thus, PVD Products was re-started, and is now ready to continue to provide customers with state-of-the-art PLD equipment, electron beam evaporators, and sputter deposition tools.
