Professional Development in Nanotechnology: Train the Trainer

Short description :

Train the Trainer features a series of technical workshops on state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing techniques, including nanocharacterization, nanofabrication, and the commercial applications for nanobiotechnology, thin films and carbon nanotubes. This 4-day intensive program consists of classroom style lectures, group discussions, a tour of a nanomanufacturing site, and requires completion of a mini-proposal.

Train the Trainer, Level I (Total: 30 hours)

Nanotech 100 BE: Introduction to Nanotechnology
An overview of the fundamental and applications of nanoscience and nanotechnology including nanoelectronics, nanomaterials, nanobiotechnology, nanomedicine and societal implications of
the emerging industry.

Nanotech 120 BE: Nanotech Business: an Overview
An overview of the current market analysis, market trends and economic drivers of
nanotechnology.

Nanotech 140 BE: Environmental Health and Safety Implications of Nanotechnology
A brief overview of the Environmental Protection Agency’s perspectives on the impact of
nanomaterials and nano-composites, within their framework of green chemistry initiative.

Nanotech 225TT: Nanomaterials Characterization
An introductory course on the analytical methodology and nanoscale techniques using Atomic Force Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope, Transmission Electron Microscope and X-ray Diffraction.

Nanotech 235TT: Surfaces and Thin Films
An overview of the fundamental of surface and thin film methodology and processes Applications
in thin film technology in semiconductors, solar energy products will be presented and discussed.

Nanotech 315 TT: Introduction to Carbon Nanotubes
Nanotubes: an overview of the discovery, physical and chemical properties, manufacturing process and challenges in large scale production of carbon nanotubes will be presented and discussed.

Nanotech 325 TT: Micro- and Nano- Fabrication
An introductory course on the fundamentals and applications of Micro and Nano fabrication.

Nanotech 425 TT: Nanobiotechnology and Nanomedicine
Fundamentals & Applications of Tissue Engineering: An overview of the applications of nanoscience in the biomedical field and the emerging field of nanotoxicology

Nanotech 525 TT: Nanotechnology Project
A step-by-step guideline on how to develop a mini business plan which can be presented to a potential investors and/or corporate stakeholders. Group discussion and presentation will be a part of the course work. Note: Training the Trainer Curriculum also includes a Workshop on How to Use AFM and SEM.

Nanotech 535 TT: Nanotech Training the Trainer Presentation and Group Discussion
Lab Tour, hand on learning experience on “How to use SEM and AFM for Nano Characterization”

Train the Trainer, Level II - Industry Specific Training (Total: 30 hours)

Nanotech 615 TT: Nanocomposites
Fundamental of nanocomposistes, manufacturing methods, and applications on nanocomposites in aerospace, semiconductors, automotive, electronics and biomedical industries.

Nanotech 625 TT: Nano-Fabrication
Advanced study on the fundamental of Micro and Nanofabrication and applications in
semiconductors and solar energy industry.

Nanotech 715 TT: Characterizations of Nanomaterials
An advanced study on the fundamental of analytical chemistry and chemical physics focusing
on nanoscale application. Analytical methodologies and techniques will be presented and discussed, including Atomic Force Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope, Transmission Electron Microscope, X-ray Diffraction and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy.

Nanotech 725 TT: Nanomaterials Design and Modeling
Fundamental and application of nanomaterials design and methodology and applications of advanced computer modeling in design and prototype development and manufacturing of nanoscale particles and processes.

Nanotech 825 TT: Group Project & Presentation
This session is devoted to group discussion and presentation of group special projects during the coursework.

REQUIREMENTS:

The programs are designed to meet the needs of business executives, technical managers and academic professors in order to further advance their professional development in the high growth industries in nanotechnology, biotechnology, clean tech and related industries. Candidates must meet the following requirements:

1. Currently employed in the field of nanotechnology, biotechnology, clean tech or related industry; or from public education organizations such as universities, community colleges and technical institutes.

2. Meet the prerequisite requirements:
Business Re-Engineering - B.S. with 3 years of industry experience or equivalent
Train the Trainer - B.S. with 5 years of industry experience or PhD with 2 years of industry experience or equivalent

3. Participation in good faith: Participant agrees to take part in the classroom training and workshop in good faith and will communicate with the program organizers, instructors and staff with constructive input and feedback as to improve the quality of the training program in the future. Participants agrees to abide to the classroom best practice and show courtesy to instructors and other participants.

4. Residents of San Bernardino County have priority registration, although Non-San Bernardino County Residents are encouraged to register.
