Nanometer zinc oxide is a new ultrafine functional inorganic product, with particle size less than 50 nm. Because of fine particle size and large surface area, nanometer zinc oxide has surface effect, small size effect and macro tunnel effect which zinc oxide doesn’t own. Thus, it has special properties and new application in magnetism, optics, electricity and sensitivity compared with ordinary zinc oxide. White nanometer zinc oxide can be colored and combined with other nanometer materials to be applied in paints, which will have properties of UV protection, infrared absorption, bacteria-killing. Nanometer zinc oxide can help stability of paint dispersivity. Under sunshine, especially ultraviolet radiation, nanometer zinc oxide in water or air/oxygen can decompose negative freely moving electron, at the same time remain positive hole (H+). The hole can excite oxygen in the air to activated oxygen, which has strong chemical activity and can react with many kinds of organic matters (including organic matter inside bacteria), thus it can kill most bacteria and virus. So nanometer zinc oxide can be applied in anti-bacterial construction materials. Ceramic industry is another big customer of nanometer zinc oxide. Nanometer zinc oxide can be directly used without being grinded to lower sintering temperature of ceramics 400~600℃, reduce process procedure and energy consumption. Ceramics added with nanometer zinc oxide can kill bacteria, remove odor and decompose organic matters to keep self-cleaning, thus quality of ceramics is greatly improved. Glass for cars and construction added with nanometer zinc oxide can resist ultraviolet, friction, kill bacteria and remove odor. So nanometer zinc oxide has wide application in ceramics, electronics, mechanics, textiles, paint and so on.
