CRANN : Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices
Address: Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices, Trinity College Dublin
Phone : +353-1-896 3030 Fax : +353-1-896 3037 When the CRANN building opens in early 2006, it will provide the physical and intellectual environment for world-class fundamental research. Special laboratories with ultra-low vibration zones will permit development of the point-probe microscopies needed to image the topography and chemistry of the nano-world. State of the art equipment will sculpt or assemble atomic and molecular building blocks. Modern research clean rooms, high precision laboratories and facilities for the 150-strong scientific and administrative staff will fill 4000 sq.m on four of the six floors. Innovative architectural design of small common spaces and meeting rooms will make CRANN a true research centre where interdisciplinary interactions arise spontaneously. Two public floors adjoining the College Millennium Entrance, used by thousands of students and commuters every day, will include a public lecture theatre, seminar rooms and display space. An innovative outreach program will be spearheaded by the Science Gallery. Offering a stimulating program of exhibitions, the Science Gallery will engage schoolchildren, students, tourists and the general public in thinking about progress in science and its place in our society. |
