The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) had its humble beginning as an Agricultural School established in Chennai (erstwhile Madras) during the year 1868. Later, in 1906 it was relocated in the agriculturally progressive district of Coimbatore as an Agricultural College. During 1908, students were first admitted into the Agricultural College for an educational programme leading to Licentiate in Agriculture (L.Ag.).

1920 - B.Sc. (Agri.) three year course started.
1930 - Recognized as a Post-graduate Centre.
1960 - B.Sc.(Agri.) four year course started
1971 - Formation of TNAU.

TNAU, rated as the ‘numero uno’ State Agricultural University in India, continues to maintain its hegemony in academic excellence, including agricultural research, policy interfacing and outreach programmes. TNAU received the ‘Best University Award’ and ‘Best performing University’ from Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for 1998.

•The University’s constituent colleges received accreditation from ICAR / AICTE for superior standards of education and infrastructure.
•Well trained faculty in different areas of specialization.
•Largely responsible for the noteworthy and rapid agricultural development of the State of Tamil Nadu.

Mission

Our mission is to help the farming community in improving their level of living by developing and disseminating technologies, provide impetus to education and research, foster innovation in high productivity and strive to solve problems encountered in attaining self sufficiency in food production of our country.
