2007 Texas’ Nano Future Statewide Conference (press release)
NANO THIS, NANO THAT – WHAT IS NANOTECHNOLOGY, REALLY? Austin, TX – July 20, 2007 – You’ve probably heard the words nanotechnology and nanoelectronics but what do they really mean? And how will the science of working with matter so minuscule that you need an atomic force microscope to see it, improve our lives? The answers to these questions can be found at the 2007 Texas’ Nano Future Statewide Conference, held August 6 – 8 at the Omni Hotel Downtown, 700 San Jacinto (at 8th Street) in Austin. “Nanotechnology is simply changing everything around us,” said Dr. Hector Aguilar, ACC Electronics Department chair. “This conference provides beginners and professionals alike an opportunity to learn more about nanotechnology, where it is going, and how it will benefit us in industries stretching from medical and military to apparel and automotive.” The ACC District is hosting the conference in partnership with SEMATECH, the Advanced Technology Development Facility (ATDF), Texas Workforce Commission, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, and Skillpoint Alliance. Sessions are designed to teach educators, the public, and the business sector about nanotechnology and will focus on advances in this emerging field. Participants will also learn about the critical role nanotechnology plays in economic development. Conference attendees will hear from experts, visit with local companies and research facilities, and participate in forums and hands-on workshops. Participants will be provided educational materials to assist in teaching others about nanotechnology. Registration for the Texas’ Nano Future Statewide Conference is available online or by calling 512-223-6271. The event is free for educators and government employees; cost for others is $100.
