Zip: 70101 Phone : 886-6-2381001 Fax : 886-6-2380421 The Powder Science Lab. which was established in 1976 is the predecessor of the research center in National Cheng Kung University. The research field is expanded from the research group of alumina ceramics which focus in theory of micro-processing and in techniques integration. In a prerequisite of foresight, energy saving, and low pollution, the aims of the center are engaged in the generation, synthesis, and re-use after usage/ recycling of nano-sized oxide powders. Moreover, the center devoted to explore the properties and techniques related new function development of particulates system. The research center attends to last and integrate the past achievements to set up a research platform of nano-sized raw powders/ materials for Taiwan. Also, the center predict that the league between commerce and academia and national corporation will be established through kinds of key results, and hope to promote the capability for researching and production of industries in Taiwan to attain the lasting development forever in industries and economics. The formation theory of α-Al2O3 crystallites was accomplished in 2002 by the research center, so it occupied the first position in the world at the preparation of nano-sized α-Al2O3 crystallites (50~100 nm). However, this research center is the only one organization who can produce nano-sized α-Al2O3 powders (<100 nm) and has the ability to offer such powders in units of kilogram now. The phenomena of the phase transformation of nano-sized powders, topotatic reaction and the solid state reaction of particles have been studied to synthesize nano-sized particles by some members of the last generation of this research center. These works have the advantages of low energy consumption and low pollution. γ-Fe2O3, α-Fe2O3, ZrO2, TiO2, PZT, ferrite (Fe-Zn, Ni-Zn, Li-Zn), BaTiO3, ZnTiO3 and ZTA (Zirconia toughened alumina) powders are all the objects in this research. This center will be diligent to set up a technological platform based on the theory, and then (1) discover the formation mechanisms of nano-sized powders, (2) prepare nano-sized powders based on the formation mechanism, (3) discuss the properties of nano-sized powders and (4) modified the properties of the powders directly or indirectly; utilize the properties to develop industrial powders with nano-sized of the prospect and innovation.
