As we get closer to the alchemists dream, the opportunities are boundless. No, we are not going to produce gold from lead, but better. The research that is underway, including the mating of biology and Si or GaAs or GaN - whatever ends up working, will produce what once was thought impossible. Just as our routine scanning at the atomic and nanometer level has transended the "of course we'll never see atoms" that we heard many times during our studies not so many years ago. As a founder of a company that produces instuments that create information needed by nanotechnologists, I feel fortunate to be at the leading edge of tomorrow's "impossibilities".
