Hopes: that the recent breath-taking advances in science and nanotechnology can be developed to a maturity that will allow products to be placed into the current markets.
Hopes: that the new technology will eventually allow new materials, products and processes to be launched and commercialized, that were not apparent or feasible before.

Fears: that nanotechnology will suffer from the hype that is all around at the moment, and will get written off by both investors and big business before it has the chance to prove itself.
