The Technical Service Institutuion of the faculty of natural sciences is directly responsible to the senate of the Johannes Kepler University as a central Institution since the mid 90ies. Its goal is to acquire, maintain and partly also the operation (with its own employees) of conjointly used larger equipment and service facilities.
A large part of the pool of equipment of the TSE is useable to analyze nanostructures, e.g. the electron and nuclear spin resonance machines, the scanning electron microscopes, the only ion-implater at an Austrian university, x-ray diffractometer etc.. Furthermore the He-liquefaction plant is used by many institutes of the Physics and Chemistry departments.
