The general manager and main owner of Plasmachem GmbH - Dr. Alexey Kalachev (author of more than 100 papers and patents) - has spent over 15 years in Academy of Science of USSR (presently Russian Academy of Science) working in above mentioned areas.

In Germany he was working since 1990 in Max-Planck-Institute of Polymer Research (Mainz), Mainz University, Institute of Micro-Technology (Mainz) and Humboldt University of Berlin. With these famous German research centers PlasmaChem GmbH supports close relationships through the several joint R&D projects.

Especially close cooperation is developed with Humboldt University of Berlin (Chair Physics of Macromolecules, Prof. J.P. Rabe), where Plasmachem has constructed additional research plasma reactors and facilities and provides measurements of modified surfaces (including nano-particles) using different surface analysis methods, first of all Scanning Probe Technique (AFM/STM/STS).

The main technology points of PlasmaChem concern to the development of processes, induced by low temperature plasma on different surfaces and in organized mono-molecular films (Langmuir-Blodgett and Self-Assembly Films) , in atomically flat inorganic solids and in liquid interfaces.

PlasmaChem is originator of several successfully performed national German (DVG) and international (BriteEuram / Brussels) projects.

Since 1998 PlasmaChem GmbH began to produce new cardio-implants (BioDiamond) of unique design, with biocompatible nano-layered DLC-coating which serves also as effective barrier against leakage of heavy metal ions (such as ions of Cr, Ni, Mo) from surgical stainless steel 316L. It is main commercial product of company at present.

The second important business line is production and sale of new industrial products - Nanopowders (NanoDiamonds, NanoCeramics, NanoMetals).
Along with manufacturing of different nano-materials, PlasmaChem provides treatment of "raw" nanopowders to elaborate ready products using own know-how. In addition, Plasmachem performs chemical and low temperature plasma modification of nanopowders with purpose of functionalization of nano-particle's surface with assistance of new plasma chemical method developed by PlasmaChem for ultra-dispersed materials. This approach gives new family of industrial nano-products with improved tailored properties.

Along with nano-materials PlasmaChem developed new stable nano-suspensions for electroplating and electroless deposition of metals. PlasmaChem took part in recently completed EC-Project "INMAN" (Brite EuRam III, Contract BRPR CT 980788) toward to manufacturing of new modified nano-particles and their application for industrial electroplating and electroless plating of metals (together with Daimler-Chrysler, SKF, Atotech). Developed knowledge is supposed for commercialization in 2004.
