The information and communication technologies offer pioneering possiblities for educational processes. Through the worldwide networking, new kinds of learning groups are formed. Thanks to multimedial simulators, abilities in virtual worlds can be practised safely and efficiently. The development of virtual basis establishes a new era of didactics and methods. Europe is setting out onto the eLearning age; Swiss Virtual Campus is a pioneering program and makes an important contribution to the education in the 21st century.

Nano-World, the co-operative learning basis, is realised by means of the newest software technologies. All the nano-scientific experiments are implemented in JAVA and therefore offer an above-average functionality, interactivitiy and modularity. The content of the courses, metainformation as well as readings and user data are saved on the server in a data base as XML objects. Therefore, users with different kinds of privileges are able to access the learning basis via personalised web interface.
