U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y. on Saturday announced that the Senate Armed Services Committee has approved language in a fiscal year 2012 defense budget bill to commission a study on the feasibility of establishing a federal center for defense related nanotechnology research and development.
If such a center is established, the College of Nanoscience and Engineering at SUNY Albany could compete to host it, Gillibrand said in a press release.
The press release said that Gillibrand “worked closely” with U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, and Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam, on the concept.
