JEDDAH: Summer programs galore

Public and private institutions, including Saudi Aramco and King Abdulaziz City of Science and Technology (KACST), have organized various educational and entertainment programs for Saudi students to help them make use of the summer holidays in a constructive manner.

KACST’s two-week program attended by 40 talented students focused on nanotechnology. There were lectures by experts on the history and development of nanotechnology and its applications. Students were encouraged to come up with ideas on how to develop the technology to use it for various purposes.

Saudi Aramco’s President Khalid Al-Falih opened the company’s summer program titled “Explore the Opportunities” at Saudi Aramco Exhibit in Dhahran. The 33-day program includes sport, health, art and knowledge-based fun. The art classes will cover calligraphy, sculpture and glass painting.

A soccer-training course by Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain is one of the major attractions of the Aramco program. Students will be trained to apply the highest standards in coaching techniques to play the Arsenal way.

The program bridges the gaps between recreation, education and health and brings all these elements together into one package of benefits for participants of all ages, one official said.

The King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh began its summer program early this month with the aim of developing the capabilities of women and children. There was a lecture on herbal remedies by Dr. Amani Awad and another lecture on the importance of education through love by Dr. Sara Al-Abdul Kareem.

The program also included a workshop for women on how to deal with the behavior of their children in a scientific manner. Children were given information about major landmarks, traditions and famous people on the five continents — Australia, Africa, Europe and Asia and the Americas.

A similar program was organized by Taiba University in Madinah in association with the Charitable Society for Social Services. Opening the program, Mansour Al-Nuzha, president of the university, emphasized the importance of summer programs to enable students make use of their spare time fruitfully. He said the university organizes summer camps with the support of experts who conduct a variety of edutainment programs.
