Iran to Hold 1st Student Nanotechnology Olympiad June 25

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran’s Nanoclub (a club for students that works under the supervision of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council) plans to hold the first stage of Nanotechnology Olympiad for Students in a number of provincial capitals on June 25.
All students familiar with nanotechnology will compete scientifically in two stages in this scientific competition entitled ‘Nanotechnology Olympiad for Students’ throughout the country. The Olympiad will be held in two stages on June 25 and August 9, 2010.

The test for the first stage will be held in 2010-2011 educational year in 10 capitals of Iranian provinces that are more active in the field of nanotechnology and enjoy more students familiar with nanotechnology, according to statistics.

The Promotion and Public Education Workgroup of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council will give three 1000-dollar awards to the top three winners of the first Nanotechnology Olympiad for Students.

The first stage of the Olympiad consists of a written examination. The 30 students shortlisted at this stage will take part in a scientific-educational expedition from July 23 to August 6, and then they will sit for a practical test at the second stage.

The winners will be awarded in October concurrent with Nanotechnology Festival.

Atomic and molecular subjects discussed in physics and chemistry educational books, and the intra-cellular issues in biology, in addition to the ability to program and use a computer are among the main references for the multiple choice test at the first stage.

The articles published in Nanoclub’s website (www.nanoclub.ir), in addition to nanotechnology educational books for students authored or translated by Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council, are among the complementary and suggested references for the test.
