Brief background about CKMNT and nature of job responsibilities

Establishment of CKMNT: CKMNT is a time-bound project partially sponsored by Nano

Mission of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India and operated by

the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials

(ARCI) in Hyderabad. It was established on 1st April 2009 and the project tenure is five

years (i.e., upto April 2014).

CKMNT’s Objective: The setting up of CKMNT was driven by the increasing need for an

institutionalized knowledge management framework capable of creating, maintaining,

categorizing and analyzing the vast nanoscience and nanotechnology related data

resulting from the explosive growth in knowledge being generated and information being

shared. CKMNT has set for itself the ambitious goal of becoming the one-stop

information resource centre for the entire “nano” community and be a window to the

rapid progress that is taking place in the field. Consistent with this goal, CKMNT seeks to

offer a host of services that would appropriately meet the diverse requirements of

researchers, industries, policy makers, financial institutions and venture capitalists with a

stake in “nano” and thus help in fulfilling the objectives of DST’s NANO MISSION.

Job Profile @ CKMNT: Recruiting the “right” team to achieve the above objectives of

Project CKMNT has been challenging. Based on our previous recruitment efforts, it is

deemed appropriate to provide some insight into the envisaged responsibilities/work

content for the posts of Senior Knowledge Officer and Project Knowledge Fellow

advertised above. It is emphasized that the expected job profile for the above posts

does not involve any laboratory work or participation in “R&D projects” in the area

of nanoscience & technology, either at CKMNT or at ARCI. Instead, it provides

exciting possibilities to embark on a career in knowledge management related to a rapidly

growing field having wide-ranging applications. It is expected that the selected Senior

Knowledge Officers/Project Knowledge Fellows will actively participate in in-depth topical

analysis of nanoscience and nanotechnology developments Using advanced

commercially available online patent, literature and business-related databases available

at CKMNT to generate on-demand, value-added techno-commercial reports, market

research reports, white papers, policy documents etc. They would also assist in creation

and management of CKMNT’s own databases. In addition, the selected candidates would

be expected to regularly contribute in compiling the quarterly newsletter, ”Nanotech

Insights”, that the Centre already publishes. Thus, the envisaged work content can be

extremely challenging as well as rewarding for persons with a sound technical

background, analytical acumen and a flair for writing. Aspiring candidates are advised

to keep the above in mind while applying for the above posts.
