The Department of Information Technology, Government of India has sanctioned a grant of Rs 8 crore for Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) for Nanotechnology and Nanos-ciences research.
Projects include research in “synthesizing Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes” JMI will also use Single Walled Nanotubes for device applications of sensors. This will be path breaking research in India.
JMI has already been at the centre of cutting edge research in these areas it is thought that in recognition they have been awarded a project on Carbon Nanotubes by Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO) also.
At present the university runs an M.Tech. in Nanotechnology with excellent student results.
