FRANCE: Chair of Excellence in Nanosciences

The Nanosciences Foundation has just launched for the fifth year its “Chairs of Excellence” program. It has been created to attract talented researchers to Grenoble (FRANCE) to develop a research project in emerging fields of Nanosciences.

This program takes place within the Foundation’s laboratories network which encompasses 32 laboratories and about 1000 researchers – all based in Grenoble. Our main objective is to foster a world-class Nanosciences research by encouraging collaborative and multidisciplinary projects and extending the international attractiveness of Grenoble in the Nanosciences field.

Description:
The Chairs of Excellence are open to both junior and senior scientists, available for full time or part time position in Grenoble; the contract duration can vary from 9 months (which might be split over three years) to 3 years.

The award package includes an internationally competitive salary, social security, travel expenses and research support for hiring a PhD student and a post-doc and additional fund for operating costs to reinforce the successful candidate’s research activities. The hosting period may start from January 2012.

Fields of expertise
We are seeking outstanding candidates in the general field of nanosciences and nanotechnology. The candidates will preferably have a strong expertise/background in one or several of the following fields:
• Quantum nanoelectronics
• Nanomagnetism and spin electronics
• Nanophotonics
• Molecular electronics
• Nanomaterials, nanostructuration
• Nanocharacterization and metrology
• Nano-approaches to life sciences°°°
• Nanomodeling, theory and simulation

°°° In 2011, the Foundation is willing to support at least one Chair of Excellence whose subject would be at the edge of nanosciences and biology / medicine, as long as excellence criteria are fulfilled.
