Canada: Research Associate – Radiation Oncology

Mohamed Khan MD, PhD

BC Cancer Agency is seeking a Research Associate position working with nanotechnology applied to cancer therapy is available for a highly motivated PhD scientist to join the new and expanding laboratory at BC Cancer Research Centre.  Responsibilities include designing and performing laboratory experiments with a high level of independence, and carrying out data analysis and reporting under the direction of the Dr. Khan.  In addition the individual will assist significantly in the writing of manuscripts for publication and grant proposals. The individual will be part of a multidisciplinary team of collaborators, and may spend some time in other laboratories doing key experiments together with others in those laboratories in the local area (UBC, VGH, etc.).

The individual will ensure required certifications (Ethics, Radiation, Biohazard, etc.) and renewals are applied for and received in a timely fashion. The individual will oversee students or others that join the laboratory together with Dr. Khan, including providing necessary training for all staff, students and users of the Department’s laboratory space and ensure compliance with all safety standards as mandated by WCB, UBC and PHSA/BCCA/BCCRC.

This position is ideally suited to a candidate with a PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field and a minimum of three (3) years of post-doctoral experience.  Equivalent education and experience may be considered.  Ideal candidate will have chemistry background in additional to biologic laboratory experience including tumour mouse studies, in vitro cell culture studies, molecular techniques like Western blot and ELISA assay, biochemistry techniques, immunohistochemistry and animal imaging using fluorescence and CT/PET.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting. Demonstrated strong publication record and previous leadership and management experience is an asset.  Demonstrated experience with supervising and mentoring students and trainees is required.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, time management, and the ability to multi-task with attention to detail are required.
